Carrie L. Taylor was born on January 25, 1932 to the late Ralph Brown and Carrie Garrett Brown.  Carrie was born in Newark, New Jersey but spent her early childhood in East Orange, New Jersey.

Carrie was educated in the East Orange public school system and graduated from East Orange High School class of 1949.  Carrie lived in East Orange, Montclair, and Roselle before moving to Monroe Township, NJ in the fall of 2000.  In 1955 Carrie wed Leroy Taylor, Jr. whom she knew most of her life.  From this union one child was born, Leroy III.

Carrie was baptized at Union Baptist Church, Orange, NJ at the age of 12, and she was a faithful member there until she moved to Roselle and joined Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in1960.  Carrie was a faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church for 40 years and served dutifully on such auxiliaries as the Senior Missionary Board and the Flower Club.  Carrie then moved to Monroe Township and joined First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens.  At First Baptist she joyfully joined the senior choir and participated in thesenior fellowship.  Carrie truly enjoyed the fellowship at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens.

Soon after her arrival in Monroe, Carrie was a founding member of the People of Color Social Club, where many members gathered in earnest friendship and social development.  Various lifetime hobbies enjoyed by Carrie included bowling, tennis, crocheting or knitting and especially family and friends games of Pinochle card playing. Carrie was also instrumental in starting the Garrett Family Reunion in 1985, which continues to meet biannually.

Carrie began employment with the Civil Service Commission of New York City where she worked for 2 years. She then transferred to the Veterans Administration Hospital in East Orange, New Jersey and was employed there for 7 years.  She then worked at Essex County Probation Department in Newark, NJ for 29 years, retiring in 1987.
