John McCutchen

John C. McCutchen went home to be with the Lord on October 12, 2018 after a lengthy illness. He was born to the late Louis and Alberta Kincey McCutchen on January 10, 1939 in Valdosta, Ga. John was raised by a Christian mother, grew up in the church and accepted Christ at a young age. He began working at age 6 and never met a stranger.  After moving to NJ in 1978, he started a career in property management and retired from Rutgers University after 25 years as a Maintenance Mechanic. He was loved by the students and had a special way of communicating with them, usually through humor. He loved making people smile and never lost his faith in God even during his lengthy illness.

He was the 7th of 11 children. Six of his siblings preceded him in death.  He is survived by a loving and devoted wife, Mary Alice McCutchen, 5 siblings: Coretha Baker of Somerset, NJ, Jessie Willis and Mary Barron of Valdosta, Ga, Willie H. McCutchen of Piscataway, NJ, Albert Lewis of Atlanta, Ga. 7 children: Annetter Garret and Christopher McCutchen who preceded him in death, Angeleaner McCutchen, Johnathan McCutchen and Angelo McCutchen of Atlanta, Ga, Rana McCutchen Davis (Gary) of Durham, NC and Duan McCutchen of Elizabeth NJ; 9 grandchildren: Crystal Wisdom, Reginald E.L. Hayes, Shumetha Bess, Harold Bess Jr, Sabrina Garrett, Tenisha Moore, Dorothy Davis, Nathaniel Davis and Jaydin McCutchen; 11 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and one special brother-in-law, Zachary Tonsil. Special thanks to Willie H. McCutchen, Huey McCutchen, Jr., Steffond Barron, Helen McCutchen, Ann McCutchen and Emory Townsley for the care, concern, inspiration and encouragement shown to him in his illness.
