Lisa Kearney Obituary

Lisa Gayle Kearney, the youngest child of Phillip A. Kearney and the late Dr. Annette Kearney, was born on October 9, 1964 in Elizabeth NJ.  Beloved daughter, sister, aunt, godmother, and friend, Lisa, or “LEESUR,” as she was affectionately called by her cousins, was a joyful addition to the family.  With the gift of gab, Lisa’s infectious spirit would always light up a room.  On Thursday, August 30, 2018, Lisa entered into the arms of the Lord while surrounded by her family and friends.

Lisa was truly a “Daddy’s Girl.”  Throughout the years, they were a constant support for each other.  He was not only her Dad, but also her best friend and confidant.  They worked, traveled, and ate at various restaurants together.  Despite all of this, they talked on the phone at least twenty times a day.  They thoroughly epitomized a unique father daughter bond in which few would be able to replicate.

At an early age, Lisa received Jesus as her Lord and Savior while a member at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Linden NJ.  She was also a member and served at Christ Church in Rockaway NJ, but spent most of her years, even re-joining within the last year, at The Cathedral International in Perth Amboy NJ, under the leadership of Bishop Donald Hilliard Jr.  During her Christian service, Lisa participated in various capacities such as Donald Hilliard Ministries, the Singles Ministry, and the Cathedral CDC (Social Services).

Lisa graduated from The Wardlaw Hartridge School in Edison NJ in 1982.  She went on to receive a BA in Communication from Seton Hall University in South Orange NJ in 1986.  She continued on there to also receive her Master’s Degree on May 20th, 1994.

Although the inception of her professional career commenced as a paralegal, Lisa worked the last 20 years side by side with her father, building the family business, K & S Tire.  Lisa thought quickly on her feet and was a true problem-solver; however, it was her exuberant personality that drew customers and workers alike to her.  Lisa’s expertise made a considerable impact on the business, causing it to consistently flourish.

Lisa followed in the footsteps of her mother in relation to her community activism.  In this vein, Lisa was an effective member of the National Council of Negro Women.  She also served in numerous other organizations throughout her life.  She was a founding conveyor of “Blessed Are You Among Women” Prayer Ministries, which was established in 2008.  Lisa was also a founding member and on the Board of Directors since 2014 for The Center for Child and Family Achievement.  In addition to serving on established boards, Lisa initiated her own personal outreach by providing backpacks for children returning to school and baskets for the under-privileged during the Thanksgiving season.  These actions are a testament to Lisa’s selfless heart and Christ-centered love for serving the less fortunate.

Predeceased by her mother, the late Dr. Annette Kearney, Lisa leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved father, Phillip C Kearney and step-mother Juana Kearney; her brother, Phillip A Kearney (Karla) of TN; an adopted brother, Lawrence Kearney (Darlene) of PA;  2 nieces, Jessica Serritella (Emilio) of NJ and Khimberlee Kearney (Austen) of FL;  four uncles, James Kearney (Catherine), Preston Kearney, Jerry Kearney (Shirley), and Floyd Kearney (Madeline) of NC;  three  aunts; Linda Perry, Evelyn Mitchell, and Bertha Jackson of NC, and a host of relatives and friends.
