Alexa Brown Obituary

Alexa Marie Brown, “Alexita”, was born in Phillipsburg, NJ on January 7th, 2007, to Ashley Brown (Covington) and Cesar Jonathan Azambuja.

Alexa spent her life in Phillipsburg, NJ. She was involved in cheerleading and softball but later developed a great passion for basketball with the help of her dad and coach – Daryl Covington, Jr. Alexa was a competitor on and off the court. She was feisty, tenacious and quickly recognized as a tough defender. She loved basketball and most of all she loved it when her family would come to watch her games. Alexa played on multiple basketball teams: Steele Hill Bulldogs, Steele Hill Warriors and Team Jenkins. The coaches were deeply invested in her talent. One of her dreams was to attend Duke University and play for the WNBA.

Alexa not only loved basketball, but she had a deep love for music and dancing. She quickly mastered dance moves with ease and always added her own flair. It wasn’t surprising to see her at family gatherings take the “front of the stage” singing boldly and dancing loudly to her favorite songs. Her giggle was infectious, and she lit up every room that she was ever in.

Alexa also loved fashion and art. Her desire was to eventually move to New York City to attend a school for Fashion. She loved the energy and excitement that New York City brings and would often mention that she would be New York City bound after high school.

Alexa had a strong work ethic and would give 100% in anything that she’d do. She enjoyed working alongside both of her fathers, Cesar, in Peru, and Daryl, here in the US, helping them with their businesses. She would give valuable input and would often be praised for her hard work and dedication. Alexa consistently went above and beyond, exceeding any expectations set forth, which continually proves she’s an asset to any team.

Alexa’s sister, Kaylee, was her best friend and they spent Alexa’s lifetime doing almost everything together. Kaylee was Alexa’s “day one.” Alexa was this for their baby sister Naomi. They held an extraordinary bond. Whenever Alexa was having a bad day, she would hug Naomi and immediately smile. Alexa also adored her two brothers dearly: Oliver and Cesar (Mateo).

Alexa loved and cared about people. She encouraged everyone around her and genuinely knew how to make people feel better; not only about the moment but about themselves. She was known as the biggest “hype man.” Alexa was never afraid to say what she felt. She was honest and bold, and she wore her heart on her sleeve; emotionally connecting to all who knew her. She was truly beautiful, inside and out. Her eyes were captivating and fearless. She selflessly brought her laugh and a joke to any situation, and she will never be forgotten.

Above all else, Alexa loved Jesus and spent many nights in prayer. She had an evangelical spirit that is still evangelizing today. Her desire was to bring her family and friends closer to the Lord.

Alexa entered eternal peace on August 24, 2023. She leaves to cherish her memories:
