Annie Ruth Thornton was born on November 5, 1952 in Newark, New Jersey. She was the youngest daughter of the late Alvin and Blanche Ruth Thornton. Annie entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 18, 2021. She was a member of Divinity Missionary Baptist Church.
Annie received her education in the Newark Public School system and was a proud graduate of West Side High School. She enjoyed staying in contact with her former classmates and planning their class reunions. Annie was employed by United Hospital in Newark, New Jersey for many years. She was later employed by the City of East Orange in the Department of Parks and Recreation until her retirement due to illness.
To know Annie was to love Annie. She was outgoing, caring, and helpful to everyone. She loved to smile and talk to people whether she was meeting you for the first time or had known you for many years. Most of all she loved her family and friends and made sure she did her best to stay in contact with them.
Annie was predeceased by her parents, Alvin and Blanche Ruth Thornton, and two sisters Shirley Scott and Connie Kittrell.
Annie leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted daughter Nicole Destin (Georges Sr.), her two loving grandsons Georges Jr. and Christopher, four sisters, Barbara Jean Spruill (Lewis) of East Earl, PA, Bernel McKenzie of Perry, GA, Marilyn Marie Carter (Milton) of Crewe, VA, and Carol N. Thomas (Raymond) of Zebulon, NC, one goddaughter Crystal Tillman, one godson Troy Thomas, numerous nieces and nephews who will surely miss their Aunt Annie Ruth, as well as a host of other family and friends.
