And as the chapters of her life unfolded, she eventually found herself retiring from Ethicon Inc., in Somerville, New Jersey, leaving behind a lasting imprint on the company and its community.
In addition to her inner fortitude and work ethic, Barbara is remembered by her loved ones as a humorous, independent spirit who enjoyed a good laugh.
She is remembered as an avid book reader and for her love of traveling, fishing, and the colors purple and lavender, which were her favorites because her heart leapt with joy at the sight of these hues because they whispered tales of beauty and grace.

She is survived by one brother, Charles Houston Buchanan Jr. (Jacqueline) of Columbus, Georgia; one nephew, Charles Houston Buchanan III (Brenda) of North Brunswick, New Jersey; three nieces: April Bradley of Duluth, Georgia, and Twanita Wilcox and Tamika Hamilton of NJ; three great nieces: Keyera Buchanan, Charlii Buchanan, and Cali Buchanan; and three great nephews: Zaire and RaChiem Bradley of Duluth, Georgia; and Tyzhan Buchanan of Monroe, New Jersey.
She is predeceased by her mother, Virgina Lee Buchanan; father, Charles Houston Buchanan Sr.; and brother William Kelvin (“Cap”) Buchanan of Somerset, New Jersey.
