Carolyn Elliott took her first breath January 17, 1942 to the parents of Thomas and Agnes Elliott. She departed this life Saturday, May 15, 2021 with her children by her bedside.
Carolyn gave her life to Christ at the age of 13. She joined Mt. Zion AME Church and at that young age, she attended Sunday School every Sunday. As time went on she became a youth usher and also sang in the church choir. In her later years she was instrumental in assisting in establishing the Jubilee Choir directed by Minister Aaron Brown. She was very active all of her life and was a part of many different organizations. When the new church was to be built, she was a part of the Project Committee to help raise funds to pay off the piano, the pipe organ and the Zion marquee outside of the church under the leadership of Rev. Henry A. Hilderbrand. Carolyn was the Woman’s Day Chairperson for several years. She also served on the Scholarship Committee where she held the position as Chairperson for many years.
Carolyn attended the New Brunswick School system. She graduated from New Brunswick High School June 1959. In December of 1959, Carolyn married the love of her life, Henry Linzey and from this union they had 4 beautiful children; Pamela, Tracy, Paula and Troy.
She was employed by Revlon, Inc. in Edison, NJ for over 25 years. She also worked at Rutgers University for several years where she retired in 2010.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Linzey Jr., and her children; Pamela Billups (Tiran) of Plainfield, NJ, Tracy Linzey of Somerset, NJ, Paula Henry of Severn, MD and Troy Linzey(Shakira) of Somerset, NJ.
Her adopted children Vincent Davidson (Dawn) of South Brunswick, Larry Gourdine of Birmingham, Alabama, twelve grandchildren; Tionna Styles, DaJai Briggs Cowell (Terrenct) Timara Spivey, David Briggs II (Taheerah), Dejon Alford, AsjonAlford, Dajon Alford, Britnee Henry, Tiran Billups II, Troi D.Linzey, Treasure Linzey and Tamir Linzey; 13 Great-grandchildren and 1 Great great grandson, 2 God-daughters Karen Milton and Tenisha Miller and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was predeceased in death by her parents Thomas Elliott and Agnes Porter Elliott, her brother Richard Elliott, 3 sisters Virginia Sims Hagins, Delores Milton, her twin Charlotte Elliott Johnson and her Son-In-Love Tiran Billups.
