Charles Jones Obituary

Charles Ralph Lindsay Jones, the second child born to parents Doris Cameron Jones and Charles Ralph Jones,  was born on November 7, 1963 at what was then Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, New Jersey.  He was called to rest on September 3, 2022.  Throughout his life, Charles was known to family and to many close friends as “Chuck.”

Charles grew up in Scotch Plains, New Jersey and was educated in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood public school system. He graduated from Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School in 1981.  Charles continued his education in Washington, DC at Howard University and graduated from Howard in 1986 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in management.

Charles was an outgoing, gregarious and “big” personality who made friends easily, and people felt comfortable in his presence. Growing up, Charles excelled in sports, playing football, basketball, and baseball. Baseball was a particular passion and Charles’s first opportunity to take an airplane flight was a result of his selection to the Scotch Plains Babe Ruth All-Star team, which traveled to Nogales, Arizona to compete in the league’s national tournament.

Charles’s love of sports and his athleticism were constants in his life.  He learned to ski as a youngster and as an adult, became a skilled skier, regularly conquering the black-diamond trails all over the Northeast. He was known for his love of baseball, in particular the New York Yankees, and his favorite football team, the now Las Vegas Raiders.

In more recent years, Charles spent his time with a close-knit circle of friends and family. He enjoyed attending concerts with friends and holidays were spent in South Orange, NJ with family. Charles also enjoyed rigorous conversation whether the subject was sports or politics and was an astute political observer who took his politics seriously and often won those with differing opinions over to his side of an argument. Professionally, Charles held numerous accounting positions in the private sector over the years and at the time of his death, was employed with the Omnicom Media Group in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Charles was predeceased in death by his father.  He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Doris Jones, his sister Crystal Mullins, aunts  Gloria C. Dawkins and Eleanor C. Lyle, nieces Natalie and Noelle Mullins, brother-in-law Donald Mullins, and a host of cousins, friends and associates.
