Obituary
Personal Life: Mrs. Constance “Connie” Ford-Crump was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 3, 1951, to James Henry Ford and Mary Magelene Ford. Connie was a graduate of Franklin K. Lane High School.
Connie entered corporate America early in her career and continued her career development in the financial industry at the Bank of New York Mellon, where she retired after over 30 years of service.
After retiring from BOA, Connie found her passion in caring for others. While still residing in Queens, New York, she joined the Epilepsy Foundation as an Administrative Coordinator, where she managed intake and engaged with patients. After moving to New Jersey in 2015, she later took a job at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital as Concierge, where she went above and beyond her administrative duties. Connie prayed with and for patients and their family, visited the sick, provided guidance and wisdom to her colleagues and acted as a loving source of inspiration for all she encountered each day.
Church Life: Connie taught everyone she encountered in her life that God is real. She was a faithful servant of the Lord. She joined Mt. Sinai Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Curtis L. Whitney. Connie wore many hats at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church – Deaconess, Usher, Church Secretary, Women’s Day Committee Chairperson, Praise, Dance and Drama Ministry Member. After moving to New Jersey, Connie later joined First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, where she continued her worship, forged new relationships and bonds, and served as a member of the Hospitality Ministry.
Family: Connie leaves behind her brother Anthony Ford (Valarie Ford), sisters Audrey Williams, Beverly Battle (James Battle), Chrystal Ford, Clementine Ford, her God Daughter Astrid Whitaker, and sisters-in-love Mary Kersey and Barbara “Peanut” Ford, Brenda Barranco and Sally Whitaker (Chris Whitaker) to celebrate and honor her memory. She is proceeded in death by her brothers James Ford Jr., Earnest “Cheek Cheek” Ford, and Gregory Ford. She also leaves behind her Aunt Nell, whom she was diligent in her care and love for over the years.
Connie birthed three fine Sons (who epitomized the ultimate Mama’s boys) Trevor Silver (Shamelle Silver), Latrel Silver (Leah Silver), Marc McLeod (Shaquaila “MoMo” Flenory). Connie married John Crump in May 1996 and extended her love to his children Lydell Thompson (Lisa Thompson), Jonice “Neicy” Crump and their children, Brittany, Lydell Jr., Trinity, Gabe Jr., Juwan and Ezziah.
A message to her Grandchildren – Cameron, Kyle and Tonei Silver, Kylie and Kairo McLeod – you all were the apple of your Nana’s eyes. Up until her last days she ranted and raved about all of you. She was proud and prayed for you all every day. Continue to be the kindest souls, who strive for the best in life. You have gained an angel who will watch over you for the rest of your life.
Connie was the matriarch of the family and was a conduit to all. She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Like her mother, Connie was a true Proverbs 31 Woman who gave unconditionally to all who were blessed to know her.
