Darlene L. Young was born to Mary Young and Tanner Wright on December 24,1954 in Plainfield, New Jersey. She transitioned from this life into eternal rest on Friday, December 17, 2021.
Darlene attended the Plainfield public school district and was a proud lifelong resident of the city. Darlene knew many of the families in town, and whether she was laughing with you or cursing you out many will miss her witty personality.
Darlene loved music, cooking, dancing, early morning walks and talking on the phone for hours to her family and friends (only her terms). If you knew Darlene you know that today you could laugh and talk to her for hours but good luck trying to contact her the next day and don’t you dare, think about showing up unannounced to her home, because she will not answer the door and that goes for anyone. Darlene loved her ratchet television shows; some of her favorites were Maury Povich, Housewives of Atlanta, Little Ladies of Atlanta and Jerry Springer. She will be missed most for her daily good morning texts, long conversations with her children and visits to her daughter’s homes.
Darlene’s most proud accomplishment were her children. She made each of them feel as if they were her favorite, but the fact was that she adored them all the same. They each spoke of her as “My Mommy” because she made each of them feel so special. She spoke to her children multiple times a day. She also loved her grandchildren very much and when she wasn’t talking on the phone to her children, she was texting her grandchildren, sometimes they listened to her more than they did their own parents.
Darlene was not only strong mentally and emotionally, but she was physically strong. Her children have vivid memories of coming home from school to find all of the furniture rearranged. Some days they would catch her in the act holding a couch midair. She was also very handy and could fix anything. She was a great listener and a problem solver no matter the issue. She was the glue that kept her family connected.
Darlene is predeceased by her parents Mary Young and Tanner Wright, grandmother; Anna Pierce, daughter; Karima Pettis, siblings; Cecil Young, Alice Young, Gary Wright and Yana Young. Darlene leaves to cherish her memory; 4 daughters; Latisha Young (Ronald) Lenise Young, Keena Wilson (Marlon) Kye Buckland (Ryan) and one son John J. Young (Lavina). 17 Grandchildren; 5 Great Grandchildren, 5 Sisters; Diane Bass, Deborah Young, Deresa Thomas, Barbara Nichols (Randy) and Wana White, one brother; Andre Young, a very close sister-cousin Adrienne Gilyard, significant other Paul Werner, sister in law; Yolanda Wilson-Poole (Booker) and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
