Derrell Montgomery Obituary

Derrell Craig Montgomery 43, of North Brunswick, NJ passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024. He was born on September 23,1980 to the late Zealon W. Clayton Sr. and Deborah Montgomery in New Brunswick, NJ.

Derrell grew up in the neighborhood of Parkside. As a young child living in Parkside, Derrell learned the true meaning of friendship and what it felt like to be a part of a strong community.

Affectionately known as Rell, he graduated from the Youth Challenge Academy. From a young age, he developed a deep passion for trucking, often accompanying his Granddad and Uncle Harry in their trucks. He went on to be a truck driver for over 20 years and would often encourage his friends to drive as well. His dedication to work and commitment to excellence set him apart as a true leader. At the time of his death, he was employed by Kamps Pallets, Inc in New Brunswick, NJ.

In addition to his love for trucks, Rell had a strong affinity for music. Derrell started his career as a young entrepreneur taking risks and building his own businesses, Parkside Rell Beatz and Park and Mark Production from the ground up. He was known for his innovative ideas and unwavering determination. Rell was on his way to becoming the greatest producer, singer, writer, and engineer in the music industry. His peers and friends respected him for his leadership skills and ability to inspire others. Derrell made a positive impact on the many lives especially PSK. Parkside was home for Derrell. Regardless of what was going on in the world, he knew that Parkside was his safe space where he could truly be himself with no judgement. Rell’s friendships were built on the foundation of loyalty and trust. Anyone that came in contact with him was automatically drawn to his joyful spirit, comedic humor, and positive energy.

Besides music, he also found joy in riding his motorcycle and playing his X-box. However, his greatest love was his family. As a devoted father and partner, he took immense pride in providing for them and ensuring their happiness.  Derrell possessed a radiant smile and infectious laughter that could light up any room he entered. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. We lost a loyal brother, and the children lost their hero.

Derrell was predeceased by his maternal grandparents George and Gloria Montgomery. Paternal grandparents, Clifford, and Helen Clayton; father Zealon W. Clayton Sr.; brother Zealon W. Clayton Jr; uncle, George Montgomery III and Aunt, Janice Montgomery.

Derrell leaves to cherish his memories, his loving mother, Deborah Montgomery; fiancé, Kimberly Isler; five children, Zoe, Nylah, Zarrah, Naomi, and Kameron; five siblings, Matasha (Antonio) Scott, Antuan Daniels, Kiana (Jurcento) Jones, Clifford Lamont Clayton, and Mar`Quel Spencer; bonus mothers; Odessa Clayton and Jackie Clayton, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Derrell will be deeply missed by his family, Parkside Community and friends.
