Donovan James Swasey, beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, transitioned from this earthly life on May 17, 2025, in Edison, NJ, at the tender age of 18.
Donovan was born on July 10, 2006, in New Brunswick, NJ, and spent the last 13 years in the charming town of Metuchen, NJ where he created countless memories filled with joy, laughter, and love among family and friends. He graduated from the Metuchen School System in 2024 and began his college journey at East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania, where he pursued his studies and passions.
Donovan had a zest for life that was evident in everything he did. He was an enthusiastic member of the Rugby Team and participated in the Outings Club and was proud to be a part of LSAMP. His high school years were filled with joy as he discovered his passion as an active member of various clubs including Cooking, Robitics, and DnD Club on Mondays with his friends to name a few. Those who had the pleasure of knowing him cherished his quick wit and infectious laughter, as well as his love to debate, which often sparked lively conversations among his friends.
Beyond his many interests, Donovan possessed a kind spirit and a caring heart that radiated warmth and compassion. He had a genuine ability to make everyone around him feel valued and loved. His friends often described him as a person whose presence could light up any room, and his family will forever treasure the beautiful moments and memories they shared with him. To know Donovan was to love him—a sentiment that echoes deeply in the hearts of all whose lives he touched. Donovan was also a cat and dog lover, but had a special bond with his beloved cat, Romeo.
Donovan was preceded in death by his beloved grandfathers, Gleason T. Jackson and Sterling West (Poppy), who undoubtedly welcomed him into their arms with love and pride.
He leaves behind a devoted family who will forever cherish his memory: his loving mother, Kelly Swasey of Metuchen, NJ; his father, Dwayne Swasey and his stepmother, Lillian Swasey and little sister, Ashley Swasey of Clifton, NJ. He is also survived by his two brothers, Damere Demarest of Paterson, NJ and Deandre Wilson and his wife Ciera Wilson of Deluth, GA; his beloved grandparents, Miriam West of Plainfield, NJ and Patrick and Monica Swasey of Stone Mountain, GA. In addition, mourning his loss is a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and countless friends who join together to celebrate his life.
