Dorothy M Wyglendowski

 Dorothy Marie Wyglendowski, a devoted servant of the Lord and a pillar of her community, was called from labor to rest on Friday, January 9, 2026. After a short, serious illness, she passed away peacefully at her home in Hillsborough, New Jersey.

                Dorothy’s journey began on August 17, 1941, in Somerville, New Jersey. Born to the late Laura Kline Johnson and George E. Johnson, she was raised in a home filled with faith and family. She was educated in the Somerville School System, where she was an active participant in many activities. Dorothy deeply loved her school days, cherishing the time spent with her many friends and relatives.

                Dorothy was baptized at St. Thomas AME Zion Church in Somerville, her family’s home church. From a young age, she loved and served the Lord with a dutiful heart. Her life was a testament to her faith, evidenced by her extensive service to her church. She was a member of the Sunday School, Christian Endeavor, and the Youth Choir. Over the years, she served on the Kitchen Committee and the Deaconess Board, eventually becoming an Usher Board Emeritus and a Lifetime Member of the Missionaries. Dorothy was especially proud to be one of the eight consecrated members of the St. Thomas Deaconess Board, serving faithfully alongside them for many years.

                For over 30 years, Dorothy worked as a skilled and compassionate Home Health Aide. She served her many clients and patients with a level of love and dedication that transcended a typical professional relationship. To Dorothy, her patients were family, and in turn, she became a cherished part of their lives.

                In 1958, Dorothy and Robert Smith were blessed with a son, Robert E. Johnson, affectionately known as “Bobby.” Bobby was raised into young adulthood by his beloved maternal grandmother, Laura Kline Johnson.

                On November 23, 1977, Dorothy married the love of her life, John Wyglendowski, in Somerville. Their 48-year marriage was defined by “marital bliss” and unconditional love. John was truly her “helpmeet” and her most faithful caretaker throughout her years of illness, standing by her side with the same devotion they both showed to their church.

                Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, George and Laura; her stepmother, Consuela Gillette Johnson; her grandparents, William A. (“Gramps”) and Nellie Kline; her sister, Alberta Mae Johnson Daniel; and her nephew, Michael Daniel.
                She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, John Wyglendowski; her son, Robert E. (Bobby) Johnson; her grandson, Markus Blair Johnson; and her brother, Winston Mould. She is also survived by her nieces, Terry and Laurie Daniel; her nephew, Ronald Daniel; a host of great-nieces and great-nephews; and many dear friends, including her lifetime friends Joan Walker, Mable Swan, Patty Milligan, and Lorayn Allen.
