A life well lived and a story 92 years in the making…. Eddie Woulard, Jr. made his debut on October 9, 1930 in Wabasso Beach, Florida. Eddie Sr. and Ollie Woulard welcomed their 7th child with joy. The curtain closed on his life on December 3, 2022 and his legacy began.
Eddie was educated through the Florida Public School System. He attended Douglas Elementary school in Wabasso. In 1941 his family would relocate to New Smyrna Beach Florida, where he would matriculate at Chisolm Highschool. While at Chisolm he played football as a running back and WON All-State twice. His love for sports would continue to grow.
Shortly after graduating high school, Eddie enrolled into the United States Army during the Korean War. Beyond excelling on the field, he was a very intelligent and wise man. While stationed in Germany, he quickly picked up the language and was able to communicate. After completing his tour of duty, he was asked to re-enlist because of his ability and skill but he declined and returned to New Smyrna Beach Florida.
Eddie, moved to Newark, NJ to pursue employment opportunities. While here he reconnected and married Madeline Johnson. Eddie planted the roots and created a life for his wife and 5 children. He was employed at Whitaker, Clark and Daniels and The Newark Public Schools System. Family was important and he was the embodiment of the head of the house. He was a man of little words (unless you are talking about sprots) but when he did speak, he was firm and consistent. Beyond his children, he played a major role in the lives of his grand-children, but nothing was more rewarding than being able to take his first great-grand to school daily. Going back home to see his siblings, nieces, nephews and family was a MUST but he would welcome them so they could experience his love for sports and New York. Eddie was a die-hard fan of the NY Giants and the NY Yankees.
Consistent and committed are words that would describe Eddie. Eddie was raised in The African Methodist Episcopal Church, and he continued his membership at St. James AME Church, where he remained a faithful member for 50 years. While there he served as a usher and participated in several other ministries. He was also an active member in the St. James Lodge #61, where he served as the Grand Master and was currently known as the Past Master. His membership spans over 50 years and he took his membership seriously.
Eddie has been reunited with his parents, Eddie Sr. and Ollie Woulard; wife, Madeline Woulard (whom both departed this life on December 3rd); siblings, Henry P. Woulard, Hosie Woulard, Floyd Woulard, Lee Horn, Dewey Woulard, Elease Clark, Mildred Hudson and Joyce Graham; and grandson, Hector Espada.
Eddie leaves to cherish his memories: daughters, Harthula Nevling (William), Myrna Woulard, Dara Woulard and Dakira Woulard; son, Hosie Woulard; granddaughters, Malikata Blakey, Bianca Allen, Alayah Morris, Jasmine Figueroa and Ashley Woulard; grandsons, Erin Young and Qu-Maury Woulard; great grandchildren, Khalil Snell, Kailee Alford, Nia Cameron, Hannah Blakey and Daniel Blakey; sister Beatrice Williams; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
