Elaine Pinion, first-born to Henry Nathaniel Gibson and Dorothy Mae Cooper Gibson was born August 7, 1944 in Newark, NJ, where she grew up and attended Newark’s Robert Treat Junior High and Central High School.
After graduation, she started her career at Benzol Products, and familiar companies like Bell Telephone, and Prudential Insurance Company. In January 1970, Elaine was hired to work for the Federal government in the Office of Management and Budget (formerly known as the U.S. Civil Service Commission); within two years, she advanced to Investigator in the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and remained until retirement in 2003. During her time with EEOC Elaine added the role of Chief Shop Steward of Local 3555, and Campaign Coordinator for the Essex County United Way. She received several awards for dedication to both those roles and recognition in Who’s Who of America.
Once married to John Pinion, the two were blessed with beautiful daughters, Louise Marie Pinion (July 17, 1963-July, 9, 2009) and Veronica “Ronnie” Pinion.
Elaine Pinion was a member of First Zion Hill Baptist Church with Rev. T.H. Rankin in Newark, NJ, and then New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Ronald Owens in Metuchen NJ. In 2012, she joined First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens with Rev. DeForest Soaries in Somerset NJ, where she was an active participant in the Small Group and Senior Bible Study.
Elaine leaves her family with a strong foundation of Christian faith and a legacy of love. Left to celebrate her life is daughter Veronica “Ronnie” Pinion (Kym); sisters Karen Gibson, Valerie Mae McCullough, Darlene Michelle Gibson, nieces and nephews, Rahsheen Wright (Donald), Janece Brake (Brandon), Barry “BJ” Gibson Jr. (Lenek), Jamar Nathaniel Gibson (Lenise), Erica Nicole Gibson, Latanya Monique Gibson, Joseph McCullough Jr. (Chrystal), her aunt Katherine Gibson (Robert); and a multitude of family and beloved friends. Elaine’s daughter Louise Marie Pinion, and brothers Barry Waverly Gibson and Jerome Gibson predeceased her.
