Eulas Hairston Sr. Obituary

Eulas “Hemmie” Hairston Sr, was born on September 6,1946 in Eckman, West Virginia.  He departed this life on December 25, 2020. He graduated from Gary District High School, In Gary West Virginia in 1964. Growing up in West VA, he attended his father's church, where he was baptized in Jesus Name at an early age.

In 1966 he married Agnes, his wife of 54 years, born to this union are 3 children: Vanessa, Eulas Jr. and Brian.  They met at the young age of 11 years old, when his family was attending an annual Church Convention in Virginia.  There was an instant love connection, she fell head over heels for him, I believe they called it (puppy love) they corresponded through the years.  After graduating high school, he joined the US Air Force, for 4 years, but he wanted to ensure that she would wait for him until he got out of the service, so he asked her to be his wife.

After returning home from the service, he was employed by General Motors in NY, for a short period of time; and Mark Buick in NY where He did auto-body work.  Eulas was restless and still had not found what he really wanted to do, so he hooked up with a friend that drove a tractor trailer.  He went on runs with his friend for nearly a year, and he loved it! He said this is what I want to do! He went on to purchase his own truck, which was a dream come true for him.  He drove long distance for numerous companies, Caravan out of Dallas TX, Hauls trucking and Polander to name a few.  After five years of being an Owner Operator he decided to change and go to work as an employee for Paul's Trucking, and Grocery Haulers where he was employed for 26 years before retiring. He received numerous safety awards for his accident free and safe driving skills. This was truly a passion of his!!!

His hobbies were working on cars, painting and he enjoyed going on cruises being out on the ocean.

Eulas was special, he had gifted hands, and could fix nearly anything. When he saw what it would cost to repair anything that broke around the house, he would say “Ag, I believe I can fix that”, and you know, he did!!!  His children and wife never worried about their cars he took care of the all the maintenance needed. He always found something for his hands to do. He loved working and taking care of his home, insisting that things be done and look a certain way.  He was a good gentle man who would do whatever he could to help others   He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family dearly.  When his grandchildren came over to visit, they always made a mad dash for the candy stash, and Popsicles, which Papa always kept well stocked just for them!  He had such love and respect for his daughter-in-law Leshia and Son-in-Law Daniel, always inquiring about their wellbeing, he was always there for everyone.

He is preceded in death by his father the late Bishop Ernest Hairston, his Mother Lucille Hairston and his sister Audrey Miller.

Eulas leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife Agnes, daughter Vanessa (Dan), Eulas Jr, Brian (Leshia) three loving Grand children: Yasin, Xavier, Morgan and a host of relatives and friends.
