Floyd Delano Atkinson Sr. was born on August 22, 1942, in Bladen County, North Carolina to the late James Milton Atkinson Sr. & Elaine Maultsby Atkinson. Floyd spent the first 24 years of his life in Bladen County, North Carolina where he attended Bladen County Public Schools. At the age of 24, Floyd joined union with his beautiful bride, Dr. Anna Juanita Atkinson in Dillion, South Carolina. They have spent the last 57 years together until he was called home to be with the Lord on Christmas Morning, December 25, 2022. Floyd was in his happy place, at home, as he transitioned to be with the Lord
having his Best Friend and Bride caring for him until the very end.
Floyd and Juanita went on to relocate to New Jersey where they started their family. From this union three children were born: Sheleata Ann Jones of Perth Amboy, NJ, Cassandra A. Ficklin of Charlotte, NC, and Floyd Delano Atkinson, Jr. (Donna) of Marietta, GA. Floyd had a total of five children: Sherry McKintyre of New York, NY, and Natalie Foat of New Brunswick, NJ. He leaves to cherish his memory: two sisters, Earnestine Wright of Elizabeth Town, NC, JoAnn Newell of Fayetteville, NC; one brother, Kennedy L. Atkinson of Naples, FL; 12 Grandchildren: Kendall Ficklin II (Amber), Zakiyrah L.G. Daniels (Trey), Karim A. Ficklin, Emanuel Atkinson, Brianna McKintyre (Deceased). Khori Jones, Mariah Gaskins, Lailah Carter, Dajon Foat
(Marquita), Muqadin Nolan, Yassriyah Foat, and Donaje Foat; 11 Great Grandchildren, and one God Daughter, Malaka Ellington.
Floyd was a very hard worker. Upon relocating to New Jersey his first job was at Metro Glass. He then went on to pursue a career in Sales for many years before starting at Morton Salt where he worked as a Machine operator for over 25 years and Retired. Floyd also worked for Supermarket General for over 25 years as well and retired from there in 1992. Over the course of the years Floyd also maintained his part-time job as a Professional Taxi Driver with Shorty’s Taxi until retiring in 2012.
Floyd was a dedicated member of Faith Deliverance Family Worship Center as an Ordained Deacon for many years. Floyd also attended the Faith Deliverance Bible Institute where he graduated from General Bible 1 & 2 in 1997. Floyd was a proud and dedicated member of the Pride of Corinthians Lodge #112 in Rahway, New Jersey, where he held the highest ranking. Floyd loved to do many things and his favorites were: fishing, watching cooking shows, and finding new recipes to cook. Floyd was blessed to be able to travel after his retirement. Floyd was affectionately known as Mr. A. A Man of Honor and Character! There are many people who looked to him for guidance and wisdom. He will be missed but forever in the hearts of many until we meet again! Rest in Heaven…
