Harold Lockhart Brown Obituary

Harold Lee Lockhart Brown was born in Piper, Alabama on October 3, 1950. He was the son of the late Mr. Danny and Mrs. Bessie Lockhart Brown, and the grandson of the late Reverend Horace Lester Lockhart, Jr., and Mrs. Mamie McDowell Lockhart.  Harold’s family later relocated to Perth Amboy, New Jersey, where they joined Second Baptist Church (now Cathedral International), and he matriculated in the Perth Amboy Public Schools.  At Perth Amboy High School, Harold was a stellar athlete lettering in three sports, and starting on the legendary 1968 State Championship Basketball Team. After graduating from Perth Amboy High School, he went on to attend Boston University on a football scholarship.

Harold spent several years working in the car industry where he received several awards and recognition for his productivity and leadership. He was a prominent member of the twelve-step program Narcotics Anonymous and enjoyed several decades in recovery from the disease of addiction. Harold traveled across the length and breadth of the country sharing the message of recovery, mentoring, and inspiring others to reclaim their lives. To meet Harold was to never forget him. His style, humor, wisdom, and ability to hold an intelligent, informed conversation about nearly anything was remarkable. Harold was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Gamma Chapter.

Harold was a family man who enjoyed every moment with his loved ones. His greatest joy and sense of accomplishment was raising his three children, Chrissy, Dani, and HD, whose lives are forever empowered because of the presence of a strong, loving, and consistent father.

Harold peacefully transitioned from earth to glory, early in the morning on Sunday, November 6, 2022. His final days were spent as his whole life was lived, surrounded by the love and care of his family and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents, grandparents, and two siblings: Marilyn J. Brown and Arnold Keith Brown, Sr.

Harold leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters: Christina Brown Perez of Jersey City, NJ, and Danielle L. Brown of Perth Amboy, NJ; one son, Harold Duane Brown (Alana) of West Orange, NJ, and their Mother, Patricia King Brown of Perth Amboy, NJ; two grandchildren, whom he absolutely adored: Harold Bennett Brown and Alara Ellington Brown; two sisters: Betty Brown-Joynes of Voorhees, NJ and Fannie Lockhart Gordon (William) of Somerset, NJ; an uncle, Charles R.
