Hayward Brooks, Jr.

In loving memory of Hayward Brooks Jr., 81, of South Plainfield, New Jersey, who peacefully passed away on October 14, 2023.    Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, Hayward was married to his childhood sweetheart “Precious” for 61 years.   His beautiful, beloved Precious passed away on August 4, 2023.  They shared a lifetime of love and cherished memories.  Hayward was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend who touched the lives of many.

Hayward dedicated his career to serving his community as a Correction Officer at the Essex County Corrections Facility for 25 years where he exemplified dedication and integrity.   Beyond his professional life, he found joy in cheering for his favorite football team the Dallas Cowboys.    Hayward cheered for his team with passion and enthusiasm.  He also enjoyed entertaining his friends and family by frequently hosting card games and cookouts. 

Hayward’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of his devoted, beloved daughter, Monique Brooks Jemerson and Teresa Melvin, his sister-in-law Barbara Matthis, his grandchildren Shakirah Tinsley, Terrence Brooks, Idris Brooks, Jerome Brooks, and a host of great grand-children, nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents Hayward Brooks Sr. and Nada Brooks, his wife Precious Brooks, his brother Julius Matthis, his son Russell Brooks and granddaughters Tiffany and Nyjeera Brooks. 

 Hayward was a pillar of strength, radiating warmth, humor, kindness, and reliability.  He was a cherished friend to many and a devoted family man, providing unwavering support and love to those fortunate enough to  know him.  As we gather to bid farewell to Hayward, let us honor his memory with reverence and gratitude for the life he lived. May his soul find eternal peace and may his legacy inspire us to cherish our loved ones.
