Henderson Cox Jr. (Curtis), 71, of Neptune, NJ went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ. He was a great man who brought so much joy and laughter to everyone he knew.
Henderson was born on August 29, 1955, in Grimesland, NC, at home, to the late Henderson Cox Sr. and Sarah Lee Gilbert Cox. He attended Robinson Union School, in North Carolina. He took pride in the education that he received, while there. In October of 1966, his family moved from North Carolina to Long Branch, NJ. He attended Long Branch High School and Middletown High School and met the love of his life, Sherry Perkins in 1972. Henderson told Sherry, when they first met, that he was going to marry her. He kept that promise. In 1973, Henderson graduated from high school and enlisted in the U.S. Army, that July. He was stationed at Ft. Campbell (Kentucky) and served his country until July 1976. Henderson also attended Devry Technical Institute and earned an Electronics Technician certificate. He became employed by the Federal Aviation Administration as a Radar Technician at Newark Liberty International Airport in 1980 and remained there for 34 years and 1 month. He cherished his job and looked forward to working alongside his co-workers.
Henderson married his high school sweetheart, Sherry Cox on November 8, 1980. They were married for 45 years and together for 54 years. They spent time traveling throughout the United States and enjoyed spending quality time together. In 1989, they welcomed their first and only child, Tiffany. As a family of three, Henderson and Sherry were devoted to raising Tiffany in a home where faith and family were valued. During the 1970’s, Henderson joined Emmanuel Baptist church where he was a member of the Men’s choir and served as a Layman. He found joy in serving his church, especially helping with preparing breakfast for Mother’s Day. Henderson made each holiday and celebration extra special and was the life of the party. During his free time, he enjoyed sightseeing, listening to music (especially The Funkadelics and Jimi Hendrix), working on cars, watching movies with his Wife, cooking/baking, cracking jokes with his family and spending time playing with his Grandchildren. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
Henderson is predeceased by his parents, Henderson Cox Sr. and Sarah Lee Gilbert Cox and his sister Helen Best. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sherry Cox, his daughter, Tiffany Gaspard, his son in law Clyde Gaspard (whom he loved as his own son); two grandchildren, Russelle and Alena Gaspard; his little big brother Ronald Cox (Linda); younger sister Hattie Lavonne Cox; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
