Herman Boone Sr. Obituary

Born on January 12, 1948, in Sumpter, SC, to the late Walter Boone and Bertha Mae Bryant, Herman’s life was marked by integrity, quiet strength, and compassion.

At an early age, he confessed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, a decision that would guide his path and anchor his heart throughout his journey of life.

He graduated from Ebenezer High School in Dalzell, SC, in June 1966, and soon after answered the call to serve his country with honor in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1970, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant.

While serving, Herman met the love of his life, Annie Mae Taylor, in 1968. The two would embark on a lifelong journey of love and partnership, joining in holy matrimony on September 22, 1969. Their union became a testament to commitment and unwavering devotion, a bond that stood firm through every season of life.

In 1970, Herman and Annie Mae relocated to Metuchen, NJ, followed by New Brunswick, NJ, where they planted deep roots and began building their family. That same year, Herman began his career with Ford Motor Company in Edison, NJ, where his strong work ethic and loyalty were evident to all. After 34 years of dedicated service, he retired in 2004, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and respect.

Herman was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life, the warmth of family gatherings, the laughter of friends, loving on, teaching and caring for his grandchildren, playing dominos and the opportunity to lend a helping hand whenever needed. He was passionate about people, and his kindness knew no limits. Whether through a word of encouragement, a helping hand, or a quiet act of service, Herman had a way of making others feel seen, valued, and loved.

On November 6, 2025, Herman declared, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” and he went on to be with the Lord.

Herman was preceded in death by his son, Ralph Singleton; his parents, Walter Boone and Bertha Mae Hardy; bonus mother, Fronia Boone and his sister, Beverly Ann Hardy.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory: his devoted wife of 56 years, Annie Mae Boone; a son, Herman Boone, Jr.; a bonus son, Richard Taylor; two daughters, Carmen Boone and Shelley Oglesby; a bonus daughter, April Lov; four grandsons, Quaadir (Chanelle) Hagood, Iziah Butler, Amir Tillman, and Brayden Thomas; two granddaughters, Zanyra Thomas and Zyjira (Vik) Singh; three great-granddaughters, Bryanna Grossett, Zoé Hagood and Sophia Hagood; one brother, Willie L.
