James Thomas Jr. Obituary

James Allan Thomas Jr.  Was born on January 9, 1957 in Orange, NJ; to the late James and Mildred Thomas.  He spent his childhood in Orange and graduated from Orange High School. While in high school, James excelled in sports and became a star athlete playing Football and Track and Field. You only needed to see the trophies from his glory days displayed in his home to imagine how good an athlete he was. He then went on to attend Somerset County College before starting his career.

For most of his career James held positions in Apartment Housing including as Superintendent of Franklin Greens Apartments in Somerset for several years. He retired in 2015 from Segal and Segal Realty after 31 years of employment with them.

James was a member of the Progressive Lodge 17 Order of Eastern Star and Shrines’ 120. He enjoyed a wide range of interests, especially the company of close friends and family. He was a passionate and avid sports enthusiast who never failed to support and rally behind his favorite teams, the Washington Redskins and the NY Yankees.

But, his passion and love for “his teams” paled in comparison to his love and devotion for his family. He was truly a family man who loved to go on Road Trips with his family.

Besides his parents, James was predeceased by his sisters, Carrie and Margaret, and granddaughter Octavia.

He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Laura, his partner of 40 years, and children Allan,  Kevin, Courtney, James 3rd, and  Derek, a nephew whom he raised, as well as grandchildren, Xavier, Theresa and Adrian. James also leaves a host of loving family and dear friends including many nieces and nephews who truly loved their “Uncle James”.
