Joe C. Dunlap entered this world on December 9, 1946, in Lamar, South Carolina, and departed peacefully on January 27, 2026, in South Bound Brook, New Jersey. A man of quiet strength and unwavering devotion, Joe lived a life rooted deeply in love, loyalty, and family.
Growing up in South Carolina, Joe carried with him the warmth, humility, and strong values that shaped his character throughout his life. Eventually settling in New Jersey, he built a home filled with laughter, love, and the steady presence that so many came to depend on.
Joe had a lifelong passion for NASCAR, the thrill of the track, the roar of the engines, the excitement of race day. Yet even with his love for racing, nothing compared to the joy he found in his family. They were his greatest treasure, and every moment shared with them was a blessing he held close to his heart. While working at the USPS, Joe met Sharon, whom he later married, beginning a partnership filled with dedication, companionship, and enduring love.
Known for his kindness, his calm and gentle spirit, and his steady, reassuring presence, Joe touched the lives of all who knew him. Whether through a warm smile, a heartfelt conversation, or the simple comfort of his company, he made every space brighter and every burden lighter.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Vonniceal Grooms, his cherished daughter Michele Dunlap, and his son Darrin Baskin. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Joe leaves a legacy of love in the hearts of his wife, Sharon, of 39 years; his daughter, Teri Allen (Eric); his sons, Michael and Craig Dunlap, Andre’, and Kory Baskin. He is also cherished by his grandchildren Jeffrey, Alexus (aka Lex), Earl, Elijah, Carena, Tionna, Mikey, Tyshon, Isaiah, Janelle, Danielle, Jazmine, Yasmine, Aaliyah, and Alayla; his 13 greatgrandchildren; and a host of cousins, extended family, and friends.
Joe’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those he loved—family, friends, and all who had the honor of sharing in his journey. His memory will continue to inspire strength, compassion, and unity in the generations to come.
