Josephine Ferguson

Josephine Ferguson was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021 at 89 years old.

She was born to Cleo and Joseph Hargrove on January 27, 1932 in New Brunswick, NJ. She grew up as a beautiful young woman in Piscataway, NJ and attended Home Marshall Piscataway Schools.

On November 2, 1946, she married her husband James Ferguson. Together they had seven children: two sons, James Ferguson, Jr., Joseph Ferguson, and five daughters, Margaret Brown, Virginia Daughtry, Rosemary Ferguson, Evelyn Anderson, and Barbara Ferguson.

Josephine was appointed to be a Mother of the Church of North Stelton A.M.E Church by the Reverend Dr. Kenneth L. Saunders. She was also appointed by Reverend Edward Adams to Stewardess Board One in 1984 and she served faithfully on the Stewardess Board for 37 years. Every year she helped to organize the annual fashion show for North Stelton A.M.E. Church.

Josephine spread joy and laughter everywhere she went. She was a friend to those in need and always present with a helping hand. Her beautiful spirit was always ready to provide loving words of encouragement and advice to her family and friends.

Her home was the place where many memories were made. She hosted holiday celebrations during Thanksgiving and Christmas where she used her secret recipe to bake her delicious butter rolls. She also enjoyed baking pound cakes and watching the faces of her loved ones light up at the first bite. Her potato salad was famous throughout the family and requested at every family barbecue and family gathering.

She touched the lives of the children and grandchildren that she raised profoundly, and her memory is alive in every person who had the blessing to know her and love her.

Josephine Ferguson was predeceased by her husband, James Ferguson, son, James Ferguson, Jr., and daughters Virginia Daughtry and Rosemary Ferguson.

She is survived by her loving brother, Nathaniel Hargrove; her endearing brother-in-law Freddie Ferguson; her amazing and beloved children, Margaret Brown (Glenwood), Evelyn Anderson (Harold), Joseph Ferguson, and Barbara Ferguson; her vibrant and quick-witted grandchildren, Glenn Brown (Ronda), Tyrone Brown (Sonya), Tammy Ferguson, James Ferguson (Queenie), Trevor Ferguson (Nicci), David Daughtry, Brian Ferguson (Jewel), Michelle Anderson, Latoya Salon (David), and a host of loving great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
