Kyle Leroy Taylor
August 15, 1988 - June 28, 2022
Kyle Leroy Taylor of Edison, N.J., who loved deeply, laughed freely and lived a life of adventure, has moved home to be with the Lord.
He died peacefully at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center in Princeton, N.J., on June 28, 2022, after a brief illness.
Kyle was born on Aug. 15, 1988, at Englewood Hospital in Englewood, N.J., and grew up in North Edison, N.J., in the loving home of his parents, Leroy and Patricia Taylor, with his younger brother Sean. He attended Woodbrook Elementary School and J.P. Stevens High School in Edison, N.J.
During his school years, Kyle played on a travel soccer team, but was lured away from sports by his love of music. In high school, he played various saxophones, the sousaphone and the tuba in the concert and marching bands. He also was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset, N.J., Sunday school children’s choir. Though he had broad musical tastes, his favorite genre was rap, especially the sounds of Eminem, Jay-Z and DMX.
Kyle was an adventurous spirit who enjoyed riding roller coasters, jet skiing, parasailing, and vacationing and traveling with his family, with whom he visited many Caribbean islands, including his favorite, Aruba; Montreal, Canada; and Disney World in Orlando, Fla.
After graduating from high school, Kyle was able to continue exploring the world as an enlisted man in the U.S. Navy, where he served for five years. He sailed throughout the Mediterranean Sea during the conflict with then-Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi and visited ports in Italy, France, Greece and Africa. Kyle held a number of positions during his Navy tenure, including as an operations specialist conducting sonar and radar boat tracking; as a member of an enemy-vessel boarding team; and on the fire ships fire squad.
Back in civilian life, Kyle worked in several jobs including as a manager at the New York Sports Club gym in Rahway, N.J., and attended Middlesex Community College in Middlesex County, N.J., where he earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice. He was studying to become an electrician while working as a waiter at an Outback Steakhouse in Mountainside, N.J.
Kyle’s mischievous, infectious grin spoke volumes about his personality. He loved telling jokes and making people laugh, and even dabbled in stand-up at comedy clubs, including open mic nights at the Stress Factory in New Brunswick, N.J.
When he wasn’t working, studying or cracking people up, Kyle loved hanging out with friends and family, playing sports video games, rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles, watching movies and playing cards, especially the many take-no-prisoners games of pinochle with his extended family.
Kyle is survived by his parents, Leroy and Patricia Taylor of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; his brother Sean Taylor of Piscataway, N.J.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who miss him dearly.
The family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in Kyle’s memory in lieu of flowers.
