Lester Clay Van Ness was born on October, 14, 1957, and passed away in his home after a courageous battle with cancer on January 8, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Lester was born in Somerville, NJ, to the late John and Marjorie Van Ness. He lived in the Hobbstown section of Bridgewater until he was the age 14 before moving to Somerville in 1973. He was a Varsity Wrestler from Somerville high school and graduated in 1976.
He loved to sing, dance, go on vacation, watch Jeopardy, play cards and spend time with his family and friends. Lester touched the lives of many with his charm and humor. Leaving behind a profound impact on his family and friends. He was a devoted father, grandfather, partner, brother and friend. Lester always placed the needs of others before his own. His unconditional love and support brought comfort to those around him. His uncanny ability to make everyone around him laugh and bring joy to the simplest moments.
He worked as a warehouse Manager for forty years at Lloyds in Somerville and worked at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital for five years.
Lester is Survived by his partner Denise Johnson, his children: Nicole A Correa-Van Ness and husband Carlos. Clayton M Van Ness and partner Michelle. Kyle V Van Ness and partner Stephanie. Marissa Davis and Dwayne Bell.
He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren: Clay’le Correa-Van Ness, Dei’Anna Fidilio, Cali Correa-Van Ness, Journee Van Ness, Skyla Van Ness, and Ariella Van Ness; His siblings: Thelma Harris, Sis Van Ness, Rodney Van Ness Claire Brown, Nina Van Ness, Ernest Van Ness, Penelope Van Ness, and Michael Van Ness; and his former spouse Patti Van Ness
Lester lived a life of simplicity, finding joy in the little things and cherishing the moments spent with loved ones, whether he was telling jokes or stories about his youth or offering advice. He had a way of making everyone feel valued and heard. Lester leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, strength and cherished memories that will be carried in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
