Lois Owens Obituary

Lois Catherine Thompson Owens

Lois was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey on April 8, 1950 to the late Phyllis Mae Salter Thompson and Noah Herman Thompson, Sr. Under her parent’s direction, Lois started singing at an early age along with her sister, Marcella and brother, Herman.  They were known as the Thompson Singers.  They traveled near and abroad spreading the “Good News” in gospel music for many years.

Lois always had a passion for hair styling. She attended and graduated from Somerset County Vo-Tech in Bridgewater, NJ.  She worked very hard to become a licensed, professional cosmetologist. She worked at various beauty salons in the surrounding communities and in Philadelphia.  Lois strived to become proprietor of her own salon and accomplished this by opening “Lois’ Hair Unique” in Piscataway, NJ.  After years of hard work, she decided to spend more time with her family and closed the salon.  She continued to work many years until her retirement.

Lois was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion A. M. E. Church in New Brunswick and was a member of the choir and culinary committee. She loved cooking almost as much as she enjoyed doing hair!  People from all over would always ask her to make her specialty home-made cakes, pies and cookies.  Lois was also a member and enjoyed the fellowship with the Senior Ministry at Ebenezer Baptist Church and Mt. Zion A. M. E. Church in New Brunswick.

She had an extreme passion for her family and made every effort to attend family events.  She was hard working, independent and strong- willed, yet kindhearted, loving and had a nurturing spirit.  Lois always demonstrated sophistication and class, loving to wear her “church hats”.  She was always willing to help others and went above and beyond to help anyone in need.

Lois was predeceased by her parents, Phyllis Mae and Noah H. Thompson, Sr. and sister, Marcella Thompson-Dorsey.  Lois will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her daughters,Alisa Williams (Reginald) and Sabrina Blocker; grandchildren, Aaron and Andre Williams, Yusef and Nasir Cole; brother, Noah Herman Thompson, Jr.; nephew, Matthew True; niece, Vinsetta Robertson; great-niece Ominay Robertson and a host of relatives and friends.

All services will be private. A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date. Please keep the entire family in your prayers. Cards and condolences can be sent to Alisa Williams 31 Pear Tree Lane, Franklin Park NJ 08823.
