Lossie Pitt Obituary

Mother Lossie Mae Pitt, age 90, stepped away from her earthly life to be with the Lord on November 14, 2021.  She was born in Maccelesfield, North Carolina on December 14, 1930, to the late Frank Hines and Mary Lily Braswell. Her mother died at an early age, and she was raised by her paternal grandparents, Sylvester, and Bonnie Williams. Lossie attended Edgecombe County public schools in North Carolina. She was married to the late Ralph Pitt and relocated to Middlesex, NJ.

At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ and she was a true servant missionary at age 19, giving clothing, food, and uplifting people. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Somerville, NJ, under Reverend Mitchell Walton, where she served on the Missionary Society, Usher Board, and the Senior Choir until her health started to decline.

Her cheerful, bright, and infectious personality always kept you laughing. Her funny stories of everyday living could have been a television series because people gravitated to listen to her humorous words of wisdom. Not only was her personality vivacious, but her cooking fed hundreds of families, friends, and new acquaintances. Pots and pans didn’t rest in her home.  She touched many lives old and young.  Mom loved to keep her home immaculately clean, and she always cared about her well-dressed appearance.

She was passionate about helping people and it drew the attention of hundreds, and thousands throughout her lifetime. Her fragrance of love spread throughout the community of all races of people.  She was honored by Mayor Ronald Dobies in the Borough of Middlesex with an Outstanding Citizens award, also given recognition at Watchung Terrace Senior building in which she resided, and for volunteering at the Green Brook Nursing Home. Lossie was a diligent worker, and she retired from GSA Army Depot in Bell Meade, NJ. During her retirement years she was also employed as a Certified Home Health Aide, and she used her home relentlessly helping her neighbor as herself.

In addition to her parents, Lossie was predeceased by two sisters, Beatrice Taylor and Lucy Gray Wilkes.

Our angel, Mom, is resting from her earthly work, but we see her in the spirit busy walking and talking with the saints on the streets of gold in heaven. Left to cherish her memories are: her one beloved son, Sylvester Pitt (Bonnie) of Charlotte, NC; a sister, Lucindy Williams of SC; Also left to cherish her memories are: her grandchildren, Sonja Murray (Christopher) of Wilmington, NC, Saniqua Pitt of Charlotte, NC, and Sylvan Pitt of Newark, NJ; five great grandchildren, as well as cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Lossie’s Words of Thanks: “Special friends, Lawyer Mr. and Mrs. Edward Johnson, who have been a mother and father to me for 18 years, Pazetta Scott, Amanda Rivers, the whole town of Middlesex, and a host of everlasting friends.  May God bless you, love all of you.  I will see you one day on the other side (smile and wipe away your tears).” - Mother Pitt
