Peggy’s Story . . . .
Margaret Stiles Brantley fondly known as “Peggy” was born on September 6, 1951 in Neptune, NJ at Fitkin Hospital (now Jersey Shore University Medical Center) to Mabel Price and the late William Stiles.
After the death of her father, God blessed her with a wonderful step-father John W. Goodman, Sr. Who along with her mother Mabel raised her to be the person she was in life.
Peggy received her early education in the Englishtown-Manalapan School District, and graduated from Freehold Regional High School, Freehold in 1969. After graduation she attended Cosmetology School and received her license. She also went to Dental School and received her certification as a Dental Asst.. Searching for the right career Peggy finally decided to attend Brookdale Community College, Homdel Campus and graduated with an Associate Degree.
Peggy worked at various jobs before gaining employment at Brookdale Community College where she worked until her retirement in 2006.
She met and married James Brantley, Sr. and to this union two children were born, James Brantley, Jr. and Kendra A. Brantley.
Peggy resided most of her life in Monmouth County, moving around a bit living in Trenton, NJ, Springfield, Mass., and Edenton, NC. But, her heart longed to be near her New Jersey Family. So she returned to the state she loved and made Freehold Borough her home, living there until her homegoing on October 15, 2020.
As a child her Christian life began at St. John Baptist Church, Jamesburg, NJ where her parent’s Mabel and John took her to Sunday School, Youth Group, Sunday Morning and Evening worship services.
As a young women Peggy joined the New Hope Baptist Church, Freehold on Mother’s Day 1972 under the leadership of Rev. Robert D. Richardson. As life challenges would confront her she did the best she could to face them head on, moving back home with her parents and returned to St. John.
Peggy enjoyed family gatherings, Bingo, playing cards with her cousins, going to the park and to the casino’s at Atlantic City and in Connecticut.
She is pre-deceased by her father, William Stiles; paternal grandparents Joseph and Elizabeth Stiles; maternal grandparents John Samuel and Mildred Price; mother, Mabel Goodman and step-father John W. Goodman, Sr.; brother John W. Goodman, Jr.; two uncles Samuel John Price and Morris James Price.
Left to cherish fond memories are: her children James Brantley, Jr. and Kendra Ayana Brantley; three sisters Cynthia E. (Edgar) Jackson, California, Myra S. (Ron) Mackey, Neptune, and Mabel E. Thomas, Manalapan (her health advisor); three grandchildren Mahogany, Naseim and Mecca; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
