Marie Marcial Obituary

Marie Shelia Grosvenor was born March 24, 1933 in Port of Spain, Trinidad to parents Beatrice Muriel Williams and Marcus Grosvenor. She was the last of her four siblings Cyril, Cecil, Marjorie, and Ulric.

Later she married her childhood sweetheart Irwin Marcial in 1958. As a young woman she pursued a career in nursing leading her to migrate to Brooklyn, New York USA in 1959 as there was a great demand for nurses.

She and Irwin were then blessed with two sons Richard and Barry. As an RN, she    worked in hospitals and nursing homes in Brooklyn, Queens and Orlando, Florida.

After retiring from nursing in 1999 she spent her free time enjoying her grandkids, shopping for her grandkids, Cooking for her grandkids, and traveling to many places like Great Britain, France, Hawaii, The Philippines,  Australia as well as visiting many places on bus excursions and ocean cruises.

Cooking was her passion. Her goal was to feed the world with her cooking. A goal that she was very close to accomplishing. She was always preparing a dish for someone. Whether it’s a bowl of Cole slaw for a family BBQ, a tray of rice and peas for a party, or to deliver cheesecakes and sweet bread to friends and family for the holidays. She always stepped up to the request. Her Christmas and New Year’s dinners were legendary. A mix of classic West Indian plus other international and American dishes that always left you full and happy. She was never afraid to cook outside the box of her Caribbean Heritage, she has prepared dishes such as pancit, roasted Cornish hens, pulled pork and her number one hit lasagna which she made for many but let special people keep the pan to bring back for free refills.

Let us not forget her favorite hobby; shopping! Her middle name Shelia must mean “Sale” in French. There wasn’t a sale she would miss. Holiday sale days were created because of her and her alone!  Anyone who shopped with her knows she’s a professional. Once coined “Shop-a-lots” by her Godson Ian, she and her Best friend Norma Young would hit the stores running and leave nothing in their paths.  The result of her shopping were all the items that she gave to friends and relatives from her shopping sprees. She loved to give and made you feel like you were part of her family.

And let’s not forget the special pets in her life Spike, Butch, and Essynce who were her other children. She cooked personally for them, bought them clothes and toys, cared for them when they were sick, and loved them immensely. Those were 3 of the happiest dogs in the world! She even cared for the local stray cats, geese and the ducks of the neighborhood, who would always return to her balcony every year for her love and food.

Marie  is survived by her sons Richard Marcial (Joanne Callender-Marcial) and Barry Marcial (Lydia MalloyMarcial); Ex-Husband Irwin Marcial; Grandchildren, Anyika, Silvan, Joseph, Morgan Omar and Matthew; Great-Grandchild, Ava; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

     She is Resting in Peace

She will Rise in Glory
