Mary was born in Moultrie, GA on February 18, 1941 to Hattie Mae Richardson and Raymond Lawrence. She attended elementary school in Moultrie, GA. Mary relocated to New Jersey at the age of 16. She attended New Brunswick High School where she met her High School sweetheart Jesse Johnson whom she married after graduation. Three Children were born into their family.

Mary was employed by Johnson & Johnson for many years as a Lab Technician in New Jersey. She eventually transferred to Chicago, IL as a Packaging Engineer. She retired from Johnson & Johnson in 1980 and immediately pursued her passion of becoming a licensed practical nurse (LPN). She worked at Rutgers Community Health Plan as a Triage Nurse until she retired in 2004.

Mary loved caring for people, shopping, traveling and especially spending time with her family and friends. She was never one to sit still. She loved getting together with her cousin Shirley Ann Brown who she grew up with in Moultrie, GA, Senella Glover, her friend since kindergarten and singing partner, her Cousin Doris Perry and lifelong friend Phyllis Johnson and many other friends that she cherished.

Mary was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, New Brunswick where she sang in the Teen Choir. She was always available to visit and assist the members whenever there was a need.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, her ex-husband and best friend Jesse Johnson, granddaughter Sherese Johnson and great grandson Dwayne Jace Johnson. Left to cherish her memories are her two sons Craig R. Johnson of Skillman, NJ; Dwayne Cedric Johnson Sr. of New Brunswick, NJ; one daughter, Lisa O. Noel of Somerset, NJ. Her brother-in-law Frank Johnson (Edrine) of Kendall Park, NJ; grandchildren, Jermaine Oglesby, LaTonya S. Morgan, Quianna Johnson, Craig Massey, Jessiah Johnson, Dorian D. Presbery, Christian D. Noel, Dwayne C. Johnson Jr., Kyle B. Johnson; nineteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two nephews Eric and Dexter Johnson one niece, Karen Beasley and a host of other family and friends.
