Mary Elizabeth Johnson Mitchell, age 94, passed away peacefully on June 14th, 2024, surrounded by loved ones at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton, New Jersey. She brought joy and love to all who knew her. She was born on May 14th, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York to Emily Daly Johnson and John Robert Johnson, and from an early age, she touched the lives of those around her.
Throughout her life, Mary Mitchell exemplified kindness, compassion, and resilience. She graduated from Baruch College ‘MBA with Honors and pursued a career in Human Resources, where she later went on to work at various companies leading towards her last stop as a Vice President of Human Resources and Operations at Republic National Bank in New York City, New York.
Beyond her professional achievements, Mary cherished spending time with her family, catering to her garden with her husband Bennie, and being an active member of various ministries within the Church. Her warmth and generosity created lasting friendships and touched the lives of many.
Mary is survived by her Daughter Ronda Mitchell Dowdy, Granddaughter Elizabeth Maria Dowdy, Grandson Christopher Benjamin Dowdy, Brother in Laws Elvin Mitchell and Clyde Mitchell, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews who remember her as an amazing Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Cousin and most importantly a Friend. She was preceded in death by her loving Husband Bennie Mitchell, and now joins him in eternal peace.
A celebration of Mary Mitchell's life will be held on June 25th, 2024, at the Cathedral International in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The wake will begin at 11:00am followed by the service at 12:00pm. Her burial will be the following morning at 11:00am at the Evergreen Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York.
