Michael Lawrence Jenkins, Sr., 69, of Branchburg, NJ went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 13, 2026 at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, NJ.
Michael was born to Jean Jones Roach and William Roach, Sr. on August 12,1957 at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, NJ and graduated from Plainfield High School. Michael was one of five brothers Brian Jenkins, William E. Roach Jr. (Shannon) and Jeffrey Roach. He is predeceased by his mother, father and brother Eric Todd Roach. Michael attended Tuskegee University on a full athletic scholarship as a baseball player. Michael could not get Plainfield off his mind and he eventually left Alabama and returned to New Jersey.
Michael married his ninth grade sweetheart, Tonya Jenkins on August 12, 2000 and became the father of an expanded, blended family of six children. Michael and Tonya had a loving union that lasted until the day he died as Tonya was with him when he passed away. He was a devout San Francisco 49ers fan and his visit to Levi’s Stadium was one of the best days of his life. He also loved to travel and Norwegian Cruise Lines was his personal favorite. His trip to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, Missouri was a life-long dream that Michael and Tonya realized in 2025. Though he might not admit it, he loved DisneyWorld. If you knew Michael, you already know how he felt about the Whispers. Even if you didn’t, just say yes …
Michael was employed by Thermo Fisher Scientifc as a Chemical Operator in Bridgewater at the time of his death.
Michael is survived by his in-laws James W. Grant III (Faith), Madlyn Grant, Cynthia Akin (Wankeith Sr.), Martin Grant (Frances), all of his children and several grandchildren. He will also be missed by many extended family members and life-long friends.
