Mike Roberson, a resident of Elizabeth, NJ, passed away peacefully on February 3,
2025, at the age of 59. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, service, and love for
his family and community.
Born on August 7, 1965, and raised in Plainfield, NJ, Mike was a man of many talents
and passions. He dedicated his life to serving others in the funeral service industry and
as an entrepreneur.
He was a graduate of Salus University, earning a Master’s degree in Vision
Rehabilitation Therapy, a graduate of Kean College with a Bachelor’s degree in
Sociology, and also held an Associate's degree in Business Administration and
Mortuary Science from Mercer County Community College. His educational journey also
included specialized certifications in real estate, welding, and higher education real
estate from institutions such as New Jersey School of Realty, Lawton Community
College, and the Floyd Whitman Sweat Hogs Program.
Mike built a successful career spanning several industries. His passion for funeral
services led him to work with Tunsil Funeral Home in Palmyra, NJ, where he served as
Manager and Funeral Director. Previously, he was the owner of Plainfield Flowers and
Gift Shop and contributed his expertise at Cotton Funeral Services, Anderson Funeral
Home, Jackson Funeral Home, and Judkins Funeral Home. His professional journey
also included roles in real estate, sales, and customer service, always striving to provide
support and care to those he encountered.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mike found joy in life's simple pleasures. He
loved taking leisurely drives, always eager to explore new places. A lifelong learner,
Mike was passionate about acquiring new knowledge and skills. His playful spirit was
evident in his love for pulling pranks, and he never shied away from a good-natured
debate. Above all, Mike was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend,
cherishing the moments spent with his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his
grandmother, Sophie Alston; mother, Bessie Roberson; sister, Juanita "Nita" Roberson;
and beloved aunt, Nancy Alston.
He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory forever:
His children: Donte Burgess of Charlotte, NC; Michael "Mikey" Williams of Washington,
DC; Shanya Roberson of Ewing, NJ; and Zyair Rivera of Plainfield, NJ.
His grandchildren: Nazaire Burgess, Anylah Burgess, Amori Burgess (all of Charlotte,
NC), and Josiah Jones of NJ.
His brother, Ike Roberson of Elizabeth, NJ, and sister, Sophie L. Roberson of Charlotte,
NC.
His cherished cousin, MaryLouise Alston, along with a host of extended family, friends,
and colleagues who will forever remember his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering
commitment to those he loved.
Mike is also survived by his lifelong friend of over 50 years, Brett Harris, and the Harris
family, who have been his second family.
Mike’s legacy will live on through the many lives he touched. His family takes comfort in
knowing he is now at peace, reunited with those who went before him.
