Naomi V. Thomas, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on December 12, 2023, at the age of 77. Born on August 4, 1946, in Barrickville, WV to Alex McCullen "Big Apple" and Mahlone Smith, Naomi lived a fulfilling and meaningful life.
Naomi was a woman of many talents and passions. She began her journey in West Virginia and later moved to New York to pursue a modeling career. Upon settling in New Jersey, she worked various jobs, including at a paper mill and as a house cleaner. However, her proudest achievement was her 15+ year tenure at Sunshine Biscuit in Sayreville, NJ, where she worked her way up to a supervisor position.
Throughout her life, Naomi was known for her unwavering love and care for her family and friends. She was often referred to as the "Matriarch" and was a second mother to many. Her nurturing and caring nature touched the lives of everyone she met.
Naomi was also a dedicated servant of God, holding numerous leadership roles in her church. From being the pastors aide, usher board, treasurer and many more. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she lived each day following the steps of the Lord.
In addition to her work and faith, Naomi enjoyed watching her soap opera Days of our Lives, game shows especially Family Fued, and the news. She lived her life with compassion for others, even in the face of her own struggles.
Naomi was preceded in death by both her parents Alex McCullen and Mahlone Smith; her daughter, Cynthia J. Smart; her two grandchildren, Victoria and Jessica Smart; her husband, Wilbur S. Thomas; and her sister, Wendy Mackey.
Naomi is survived by her loving family, including her sister, Tomasena Enoch of PA; sister, Minister Denalee Baylor of NC; Brother, Darrell Mosley of NV; Four (4) daughters, Melisa K. McDale of NC; Vanessa D. McDale of NJ; Jocelyn Davis of NC (Michelle Martin); Antoinette McDale of NJ. Ten (10) stepchildren whom she cherished and loved; Eighteen (18) grandchildren; Thirty five (36) great grandchildren; One (1) bonus daughter Margaret A. Murphy. Many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Naomi will be remembered for her selfless and caring nature, her unwavering faith, and her dedication to her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
