Life Story
Randy was born August 21, 1956 in Somerville, NJ to the (late) Randolf Johnson Sr & Ruth Miller-Johnson. He departed this life on July 9, 2022 in New York, NY. Randy was raised attended Somerville Schools Randy was a standout athlete and played under Coach Jerry Moore at Somerville High School. He graduated Somerville High in 1976.
Randy played football with the “VILLE” football team during 1970s. The VILLE was a Hobbstown and Somerville community football team sponsored by Pazette “Pat” Scott. Randy was part of the VILLE that won quite a few championships. After graduating, Randy signed a 4yr football grant-in-aid to attend the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt). The Pitt Assistant Coach Jim Dyar was present at Somerville High School to sign Randy on as a “Defensive end” at Pitt. Randy was an Outside Linebacker. Randy played in the Sugar Bowl. The Pitt Panthers' first Undefeated National Championship since 1937. Randy played with popular Running Back, Tony Dorsett.
Randy graduated and received his Batchelor’s Degree in Sociology at Pitt.
Randy spent one week in a "Survival Training Program" at Hurricane Island, Maine. He and his team climbed 1200ft mountain and all survived.
Randy served as Assistant Coach for Somerville High School Pioneers, who went 9-0 in the 38th Mid-State Conference Championship under the leadership of Jeff Vanderbeek.
Randy was a former Police Officer at Hillsborough Police Department. Randy was also employed as a Patrolman for Somerville Middle School until he was unable to work.
Randy was predeceased by his mother Ruth Miller-Johnson and his father Randolf Johnson, Sr. and his Grandparents Claude & Edith Miller.
Randy leaves to cherish his memories 3 children, his 2 Sons Jason Vandervoort of Burlington, Wisconsin; Keith Johnson (Lauren) of Allen, Texas; 1 Daughter Brianna of Norristown, PA, 2 Grandchildren Symone & Jason Jr.
1 Brother, Lester Johnson (Sharmain) of Snellville, GA and 1 Sister Vivian Johnson of Hackettstown, NJ, Nephew Brandon Johnson, Nieces Lauren, Christiana, Taylor and Alexa Johnson, 1 Great Niece Bria, 1 Great Nephew Elijah, all of Georgia
His Maternal Aunts Anna Miller-Murdock, of Bridgewater, NJ; Hannah Miller-Avant, of Easton, PA; Sarah Miller-Ashley, Princeton, NJ & Elizabeth Rodgers-Miller, of Bridgewater, NJ. He leaves many cousins, friends, students and co-workers. Randy will truly be missed.
