On November 14, 1958, Regina Newton was the third of seven children born to the late Cloris and Oscar J. Newton in New Brunswick, NJ. She attended school in Piscataway, NJ, graduating from Piscataway High School, and member of National Honor Society in the class of 1976. She briefly attended Rutgers University.
Regina worked at Rutgers University after High School graduation for a couple of years. She worked as a secretary/stenographer at AT&T for 26 years until early retirement. Regina then worked at Solix, Inc in Parsippany, NJ for many years. At the time her passing she was presently employed by Rutgers University.
Regina loved to sing. She accepted Christ at an early age at Union Baptist Church in South River, NJ where she was a member of the choir and the church secretary. She joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Jersey City under Pastor B.O. Wilson then rejoined Union Baptist.
Regina departed this life on September 19, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar J. and Cloris Newton.
She leaves to cherish her memories a son, Joseph A. Newton (Sejane); her longtime companion of 15 years, Leslie “Butchie” Carlise; Six siblings: Celeste Hairston (Charles), Agnes Newton, James Newton (Veatrece), Joan Newton, Arthur Newton (Alexandria), and Warren Newton; a cousin, Mark Fortner; a honorary sister, Kirin Dubose (Kurahn); two aunts, Hazel Ridgeway and Susie Scruggs; one uncle, Wilbert Scruggs; four nieces: Caryn Hairston, Dominique Newton (Jourdane), Naomi Newton, and Jamaya Newton; two nephews, Devon Newton and Arthur Newton, Jr.; bonus daughter, Ebony Irizarry (Kelvin); bonus son, Kris Serioux (Kendra); six grandchildren: Payton Hoy, Julian Newton, Jayden Newton, Addison Hoy, Dante Irizarry, and Lucas Irizarry; honorary niece, Joanne Robinson; four honorary nephews: Kurahn Robinson Jr., Eric Greene Jr., Karter Robinson and Kamerin Robinson; and other relatives and many friends.
