Richard Dixon

Richard Allen Dixon, affectionately known as "Butch" by his family and close friends, age 81, of North Brunswick, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026.

Richard was born on March 14, 1945, in Newark, New Jersey, to the late Evelyn and Richard Dixon.

Richard was a loving father, grandfather, brother, cousin, and friend. He cherished his family and his faith and had a deep love for music. He especially enjoyed gospel music, as well as the timeless sounds of Johnny Mathis and Frank Sinatra, and jazz.

Richard enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved driving, going to the movies, and stopping for a good cup of coffee from Dunkin'. He also enjoyed delicious, corned beef or pastrami on rye from his favorite diner. A devoted sports fan, Richard enjoyed watching basketball and cheering for the Boston Celtics, as well as football and his favorite team, the Los Angeles Rams.

Richard was educated in the Newark NJ school system, and he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. His faith was an important part of his life. Richard accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized in 2003 at Cathedral International, where he remained a faithful member for more than 20 years.

Richard leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children, Mark, Brian, Jason, and Zamiyah Dixon; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; his sister, Garnett Montique; his special brother/cousin, Francis "Steve" Weiss; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Evelyn and Richard Dixon; his sisters, Shelia Hunt and Roseann Jackson; his sons, Richard "Dicky" Dixon and Kevin Dixon; and his special cousin, Eileen Mitchell-Brown.

Richard will be remembered for his love of family, his unwavering faith, his love of music and sports, and the many cherished memories he created with those who knew and loved him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
