Shirley Wynn

Shirley Barnes-Wynn, 84 of Somerset, NJ, departed this life peacefully at home on October 15, 2021. She was born April 5, 1937, to the late Floyd and Fannie Edwards in Washington, DC.

Shirley lived a life of faith, and her spiritual journey began at an early age.  She was baptized at St. Delight Baptist Church in Walstonburg, NC as a young girl. After relocating to New Jersey as a young adult, Shirley joined Beulah Baptist Church in Newark, NJ in the 1970’s. There she was a member of the Senior Choir and Women’s Auxiliary.  She then joined and faithfully served at Jackson Chapel of Wilson, NC and lastly, First Baptist of Lincoln Gardens.

Ministry was her true passion.  She touched the lives of many with her words of wisdom and spiritual counsel.  She loved to share the Gospel whenever and wherever possible. Her passing has left a void but the memories will forever be in our hearts.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by a daughter, Facynthia Gail Barnes; her ex-husband, James Barnes; and her husband, Karl Wynn.

She leaves behind to cherish her life and legacy: two daughters, Valerie Barnes-Collins of Somerset, NJ and Donna Barnes of North Brunswick, NJ; grandchildren, Dawan McAdams (Brianne) and Jasmine Collins both of Somerset, NJ; great grandchildren, Morgan Gayle and Avery Jaine McAdams of Somerset, NJ; her siblings, Julia Barnes of Clinton, MD, Eula Bell Pearson (John) of Ayden, NC, Elizabeth Martin of Syracuse, NY, Betty Jean Walden of Washington, DC, Carolyn Daniels of Farmville, NC, Calvin Daniels (Brenda) of Stantonsburg, NC, Earl Daniels (Lois) of Hampton, VA, and Arvester Bynum, Sr. of Rocky Mount, NC; Two Goddaughters, Angelique Short (Ricky) of East Stroudsburg, PA and Tolaina Goodwin (Aaron) of Newark, NJ; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
