Thomas Bernard Powell

Thomas Bernard Powell, son of the late Dollie Harrell Powell and James Walter Powell was born on March 25, 1946, in Ahoskie, North Carolina.  He departed this life on October 24, 2024.

He received his early education in the public schools in Harrellsville, North Carolina and graduated from Calvin Scott Brown High School in 1964.  After graduating high school, he moved to New Jersey and worked various jobs. He worked for General Motors and Anchor Bar in Plainsfield, New Jersey.

Thomas accepted Christ at an early age and had a strong faith in God.   He loved the lord with all his heart.  He would tell anyone who would listen that “God’s got my back”.  He had a passion for building things and helping neighbors with various projects.  He was always willing to help neighbors and friends with grass cutting, leaf blowing or other chores.  He enjoyed reading and listening to gospel music.  He was a giving and caring person who loved his family and friends unconditionally.  

Thomas leaves to cherish his memory son Aaron Powell, sisters Noami Howard of Smithfield, Virginia, Mable White of Harrellsville, North Carolina, Gladys Hall (Alfred) of New Castle, Delaware and Sister-in-Law Gladys King Powell Somerville, New Jersey.  Predeceasing him in death are siblings Hattie Williams, Marie Powell, Lucradia Raynor, Twin sister Pattie Watford, George Powell and James Powell.  He will be greatly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
