Tracy L. Smith–Tinson, of New Jersey, peacefully transitioned on April 27, 2026, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, surrounded by her loving immediate family. She was born on November 17, 1962, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Harvey M. Smith and Vivian Hicks Smith.
Tracy was a woman of deep faith, a devoted servant of the Lord, and a cherished member of First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, where she faithfully served as a Lead of the Hospitality Ministry. Her warmth and welcoming spirit reflected her love for God and for people, leaving a lasting impression on all who crossed her path.
Her commitment to excellence led her to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from New Jersey City University and a Master of Public Administration from Kean University.
Tracy dedicated over 40 years to the nursing profession, beginning as a Licensed Practical Nurse and advancing to a Registered Nurse. She later served in healthcare administration, contributing her expertise to the Robert Wood Johnson healthcare system and most recently to Saint Peter’s University Hospital. She was also a lifetime member of the National Black Nurses Association, where she held various leadership roles, including serving as President of her local chapter, leaving a legacy of mentorship and advocacy.
A woman of strength, discipline, and service, Tracy proudly served her country in the United States Army Reserve for 13 years. Her distinguished military career earned her numerous accolades, and she was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain in 2002.
She was the beloved and devoted wife of Reginald Tinson, whom she married on August 31, 1997. Above all, Tracy leaves to cherish her precious memories her devoted husband, Reginald, and her loving mother, Vivian Hicks Smith. She also leaves her beloved children: son Ecliffe Cline; daughters Regina Ifeanyi Obe (Charles) and Alicia Anton; and her treasured granddaughters Danayjah Baxter, Akira Anton, and Anla Anton.
She is further survived by her loving siblings, G. Tyrone Hicks (Joni) and Tara Porcher (Sean); niece Felecia Harrison; nephews Gerald “TJ” Hicks II (Liz) and Sean “SJ” Porcher; grandnieces Danaysha Samuel and Charlotte Hicks; three aunts, Alfreda Hendricks, Evelyn Bagley, and Merlene Smith; three uncles, Wille Hicks (Juanita), Clarence Hicks (Gertrude), and Larry Hicks (Michelle); sister-in-law Cheryl Carter; along with a host of extended family members and dear friends.
**A special and cherished bond: **
Tracy held a uniquely close and loving relationship with her nephew, Sean “SJ” Porcher, whom she adored deeply and embraced as her own son. Their bond was a source of immense joy and pride in her life, and she poured into him the same unconditional love, guidance, and care that defined her as a mother.
Tracy embraced life with joy and grace. She loved traveling, especially cruising, hosting celebrations that brought family and friends together, and baking beautiful themed cakes, particularly for her beloved SJ. She appreciated all genres of music, with a special love for gospel, live jazz, and house music. Her radiant smile could light up any room, and her laughter was truly contagious.
Tracy’s life was a testament to faith, love, and service. Her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched, the family she cherished, and the community she so faithfully served.
