Tyrone Mosley Sr. Obituary

Live Streaming will be available at the time of the service.

Tyrone Dwight Mosley, Sr. was born June 17, 1951, in New Brunswick, NJ and departed this life on Tuesday, March 30, 2021.  He was the son of the late Virginia Jordan and Freddie Clifford Davis. Tyrone received his primary and secondary education in the Piscataway school system.

He joined the United States Army in 1969 upon graduating from high school.  Tyrone served in Vietnam for 11 months and 28 days -- a citing he proudly recounted to his family. He was honorably discharged from the Army in January, 1972.

On March 21, 1970, Tyrone married his childhood sweetheart, Mary – they recently celebrated 51 years of marriage. Tyrone first met Mary in the sixth grade, where he later wrote her a letter asking her to be his girlfriend!  Mary happily accepted his invitation and dated Tyrone until they married shortly after high school graduation.  From that union, they had two children, Tyrone Jr. and Tobi.

Tyrone was a loving and devoted husband and father.  His love for motorcycles was passed down to Tyrone Jr. when he taught him to ride dirt bikes (the Honda 50 and the Kawasaki KX80) and developed trails near the family home for him and his friends to ride.  Tobi is often referred to as her father’s twin’ because of their similar ‘Gemini’ personalities.  Tyrone and Tobi shared a special father/daughter bond where they would fuss with one another but he always gave into her whims.

He was a proud man who loved his family and friends.  He enjoyed and was skilled in auto mechanics, which he learned at a young age from his late uncle, Joseph (Bay) Mosley.  His passion for mechanics led to 45 years of service at Foley Incorporated (Caterpillar).  Tyrone started his career at Foley in 1972 as a technician and rose through the ranks, taking on new and challenging roles until his retirement in 2017 – Lead Man, Foreman, Day Shift, Night Shift, Truck and Construction. His accomplishments over his career are too many to name.  Tyrone’s contributions to Foley will forever be remembered.

In his spare time, his passions included riding (and fixing!) his Harley Davidson(s), watching NASCAR, and enjoying an ‘occasional’ visit to River Road Tavern. In his younger years, when his knees were less achy, he enjoyed dancing while listening to old school music, such as the       Chi-Lites and Otis Redding, and singing along to the Temptations and other soulful singers.  His rendition of “Happy Birthday” was frequently requested at birthday celebrations.  Tyrone always had lively stories on deck and was known to be the life of the party!

Tyrone’s love, devotion, and spirit have touched countless lives and he will be missed dearly. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Lorenzo (Renzy) Mosley of Piscataway, NJ and niece Patricia Mosley Adams of Somerset, NJ.  He is survived by his wife Mary Mosley of Piscataway, NJ; son Tyrone D. Mosley Jr. (Alicia) of Mooresville, NC; daughter Tobi D. Mettle (George) of Somerset, NJ; brother Kenneth Ricky Jordon (Staci) of Oak Harbor, WA; and his aunt Mollie May (John) of Piscataway, NJ. Tyrone is also survived by his two cousins who were more like sisters, LaRayne Hunter (Theodore) of Piscataway, NJ and Veronica Pope of Sayreville, NJ; a sister-in-law Nina Bowers of Piscataway, NJ; brother-in-law William Bowers of Piscataway, NJ; brother-in-law Lorenzo Bowers of Paterson, NJ; four grandchildren, Deana and Sani Mosley of Mooresville, NC; Malachi and Leilani Mettle of Somerset, NJ; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.
