Veronica Bertrand Obituary

Veronica Marilyn Bertrand, beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend, was born in Dominica, West Indies on March 3, 1957. She transitioned peacefully on October 29, 2024. She is predeceased by her parents, Keith and Marcelle Colaire (Bruney), and her brother Phillip Colaire.

She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, William “Roy” Bertrand, and her siblings Jeanette Winston (Austin), Jefferson Colaire (Kimberly), Grantley Colaire, Felix Colaire, and Lincoln Colaire (Sandra). Marilyn also leaves behind her cherished nieces and nephews: Alian, Marcus, Jessica, Anthea, Angie, Junelle, Ashlee, David, Gaetan, Linton, Kamalludin, Fenard, Aaron, Nikita, Trystan, Ashton, Shaleah. She had a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandnieces and nephews who brought her joy.

Marilyn emigrated from Dominica to the United States in 1979, where she pursued her dreams with remarkable dedication. She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Rutgers University and a Master’s in Taxation from Seton Hall University. She dedicated herself professionally at AT&T as a CPA analyst, where she devoted 29 years before retiring in 2024.

Marilyn began her Christian walk as a member of Epic Church in Sayreville, New Jersey, serving in the Children's Ministry and as a Prayer Room Worker. She was later a staff member at the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, New York. Her faith was her compass, and she guided friends and family towards Christ with grace and kindness.

She built a loving home with her husband, Roy, and supported her family through their educational and career pursuits. Marilyn was well traveled and enjoyed going to numerous places with her husband. Some of her favorite destinations included Jerusalem, Italy, France, Alaska, and the Caribbean.

Known throughout the Dominican community in New Jersey and beyond, Marilyn’s home was always open, and her table always set for guests. Her hospitality and extraordinary generosity were legendary.

Her legacy of kindness, faith, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by those she touched. Marilyn's life exemplified love, generosity, and a dedication to service that will remain an inspiration to all.

“…because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.” 2 Timothy 1:12
