Mrs. Violetta Caldwell Johnson was born in Newberry, South Carolina. She was the second child of the late Elliott Caldwell, Jr. and Doretha Oglesby Caldwell Trapp. She departed this earthly life on September 18, 2020, at home.
Mrs. Johnson received her education in Newberry, South Carolina, graduating from Gallman High School, Class of 1958. She relocated to Washington, D.C. in pursuit of employment. Her high school sweetheart, James Henry Johnson, traveled to Washington, D.C. and told her “Let’s go! We are not wasting any more time!” She was immediately united in holy matrimony on May 6, 1962. Mr. Johnson affectionately referred to her as “Bonnie.” They then moved to New Brunswick, New Jersey to start a family. She retired from Bristol Myers Squibb Pharmaceuticals after 25 years of employment in September 2000. They have two sons: Kenneth Myron Johnson (Julia) of Tinton Falls, New Jersey and James Kevin Johnson (Dudleyna) of Ewing, New Jersey. Four grandchildren: Mark Anthony Colon of Hoboken, New Jersey; Jasmine Marie Johnson of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and James Dudley Johnson and Morgan Panton Johnson of Ewing, New Jersey. One sister, Shirley C. Pride of Columbia, South Carolina. Three sisters-in-law: Ruthie Stratton and Joyce McCoy of Riverdale, Georgia and Linda Green (Lionel) of Memphis, Tennessee. One brother-in-law, Lawrence Harper of Memphis, Tennessee. She is also survived by a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Johnson was an active member of the Somerset Baptist Church where she was a member of the Usher and Hospitality Ministries. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and loved her family dearly.
