Once again, our family has gone through the valley of the shadow of death and has left our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend on Friday, July 8, 2022. His sweet spirit moved from “this earthly tabernacle to a building not made with human hands” where there is no more death, neither sorrow, crying nor pain. Blessed with a long life, we can say “surely goodness and mercy followed him all the days of his life.”
Mr. Washington Grandy Brown, Jr. was born March 19, 1945, in Gum Neck, NC to the late Washington Grandy Brown, Sr. & Clinette Basnight Brown.
He was preceded in death by brothers Lester Brown and Elbert Brown, sisters Araminta Newkirk and Louise Brown and one son Terance Hart. He was the sixth of eight children and was the owner of Star Manufacturing, Inc in NYC.
After retirement he enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, traveling, playing cards, going to the gym-where he met new friends and went bowling regularly.
Grandy was a comedian in his own right. He always kept you laughing with his infectious smile and comedic personality. He was sharp, witty and had extraordinarily great hearing-even when he wasn’t supposed to be listening. He was loved by many and cherished by all.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving wife of 55 years, Myrtis Brown, two brothers, Preston Brown (Geraldine) & Nathaniel Brown (Beulah), two sisters, Sylvia Norman & Melba Joseph (Anthony), 2 sons, Keefe Brown & Rodney Beasley, one “daddy’s” girl-Lika Brown, 8 grandchildren - Kristian Montgomery/Brown, Terance Hampton Hart, Tyriq Beasley, Taylor Janae Hampton Hart, Tiffany Janae Beasley, Kennedy Lorna Brown, Kendall MacKenzie Brown, Tiara Janae Hart and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and many family members.
