Zealon Wayne Clayton, Sr. was born in Sladesville, NC to Helen Chance Clayton and the late Clifford Clayton on December 6, 1953. His journey came to an end on June 21, 2021 at his home in Franklin Park, NJ.
Zealon affectionately known as “Zeek”, attended the public schools of Swansquarter, NC. At an early age he moved to New Jersey. He attended Weequahic High School in Newark, NJ. He was previously employed at Johnson & Johnson Company. He also drove tractor trailers for many years. Lastly, Zealon started a courier business where he did services for Wachovia Bank until he retired due to medical issues.
Zealon was full of life and laughter. He was very musically inclined and loved to sing. He was a skilled in playing the guitar, keyboard, piano and drums. He was a former member of Weeping Mary Disciples Church. He played instruments for New Destiny Family Worship, Weeping Mary Disciples Church, Deliverance Pray Revival and several other churches throughout his life.
One thing about Zealon is he loved people. He would give you his last. His family was very important to him and he valued it. He use to go to food banks and get food and pass it out to the elderly people who did not drive. He always give people rides.
Zealon was predeceased by his father, Clifford Clayton; and a son, Zealon W. Clayton, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his wife, Jacqueline Clayton; his mother, Helen Chance Clayton; his daughter, Kiana (Jurcento) Jones of Somerset, NJ; three sons, Clifford Lamont Clayton of Durham, NC, Derell Montgomery of North Brunswick, NJ, Mar’Quel Spencer of New Bern, NC; his siblings, Lillian Burrus of Sladesville, NC, Clifford (Gloria) Clayton, Jr. of Scranton, NC, Carolyn (Dennis) Davis of Winteville, NC, Robert (Brenda) Cooper of Scranton, NC, Curtis Clayton of Scranton, NC, Linda Barrow of Scranton, NC, Nicola (Kevin) Gibbs of Greenville, NC, and Randy (Tonya) Clayton of Greenville, NC; five granddaughters, Cyana Davis of Somerset, NJ, Zoe, Nylah, Zaresh and Naomi Montgomery of North Brunswick, NJ; two grandsons, Jordan Leftwich of Covington, GA and Jurell Jones of Somerset, NJ; two daughters-in love, Kimberly Isler and Shawna Pina; his godchildren, Tara Purcell, Rashaun Thompson and Domuneik Dennis; a special cousin, Kelvin Barrow; his special friends, Patricia and Lawanda Copland, Terry Butler, Kameron Isler; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
