Some people only walk this earth for a short time. Their departure reminds us that angels are watching over us. On January 13, 2021 Yana Anne Young rejoined her heavenly family and gained her wings.
Yana known by Yanie or Bird was born on June 14, 1960 in Plainfield New Jersey where she attended Plainfield Public Schools and graduated from Plainfield High School. After graduation Yana attended cosmetology school, but her heart was where the children were. Up until her death Yana worked at Dover High School, a place where she was loved and adored by many and where she enjoyed being known as the “lunch mom” by many students. Yana was a very loving person with an exceptionally kind heart. She loved people and had a special way of making everyone feel loved and welcomed. Her remarkable spirit will be remembered by all who knew her.
Yanie was always eager to put others before herself and giving even if it was her last. She loved cooking and enjoyed gardening and giving out her cabbage and collards to her neighbors. Yanie was an avid reader and had a true love for reading. There isn't a day that went by where you wouldn't catch Yanie with a book in her hand, whether she was sitting at home curled up on her favorite red couch, or taking a quick break at work just to finish the last chapter. She was also known for her love of music and sports. Yanie enjoyed listening to any genre of music, but was most in love with music of her era. She listened to music ranging from The Whisperers, The Chi-Lites, to the latest hip hop and R&B, but her favorite artist of all time was her own son, Malik Young, Gospel Singer and Director of The 100 Voices of Gospel. She was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys and being what she called a "real" fan, she often wore her Cowboy jersey, socks, hats, t-shirts and even had memorabilia around her home. But most of all, Yanie enjoyed making connections with people; family, friends and strangers alike. No matter who it was or where she was, she was happiest when engaged in conversations. With her outgoing personality, she touched the hearts and lives of every person she came in contact with.
Most precious to Yana was her faith in God. Through her walk in Christ she developed lifelong friendships and newfound family in Christ who she loved and cherished.
Yana will be reunited in heaven by her Mother Mary Young and Father Andrew Fisher. Along with her 2 sisters Alice Young, Lucy Fisher, and 3 brothers Cecil Young, Larry Fisher and Gregory Fisher.
More than anything Yanie was most proud of her children. She understood each of their love languages and loved them equally and unconditionally. Her children would always call her "my mom" when talking to each other. This was a symbolism of how special she made each of them feel and the love she not only gave to them, but imparted within them to always be your brothers and sisters keeper, no matter what. She leaves to cherish the memories of her beautiful life through her 6 children, who made up the entirety of her world, Malik Young, Tyemirh Young, Nyjewela Young, Wyah Young, Kareem Young, and Elaje Groom. 5 Grandchildren Tyemirh Young, Madison Brown, I’Yanie Wilson, I’mahd Spinks, and Amir Young. She loved being a grandmother and enjoyed being known as "Meme".
There was nothing more important in this world than Yanie's love for her family and the times they spent together. During the early part of the pandemic many family gatherings, including her 60th birthday party had to be canceled. However, finally, after the restrictions were lifted, she was able to celebrate together, in person for “A Sister's Weekend”. It will always be remembered when Yanie arrived with tears in her eyes and said “I'm so happy I came, I have missed my family so much".
Yana (Yanie or Bird) is loved and will be missed beyond words by her 10 Sisters Fraternal Twin Wana White, Diana Bass, Deborah Young, Darlene Young, Deresa Thomas, Irish Miller, Barbara Nichols, Barbra Oats, Sherry Fisher and Joan Mayo as well as her 4 Brothers Andre Young, Don Fisher, David Fisher, and Anthony Fisher, along with a host of beloved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
"A life well lived. Until we meet again, you will live on in our hearts and memories."
The Funeral Service will be live streamed - Thursday, January 21, 2021 11AM
